Beauty Buzz: Smashbox Artist Eye Palette in Muse

I think just about everyone’s ready for Spring. Although I do appreciate the view of the local ski spot from my office window, the fact that there’s a few melted spots on the mountain are proof that warmer weather may be here to stay sooner than later.

Winter beauty products are also seeing their final days. The rich mauves, purple and golds so big earlier this season will soon be traded in for a lighter array of pastel springtime hues. Economic downturn aside, consumers will soon be visiting their local Sephora or CVS to stock up on their seasonal beauty staples, like eyeshadow and eyeliner.

When the latest eyeshadow set from Smashbox (www.smashbox.com) - the high-quality cosmetic brand from Dean and Davis Factor of Max Factor family fame - arrived in the mail, an Artist Eye Palette in Muse ($48), it had Spring 2009 written all over it! The simple white packaging features a rainbow splatter paint design, but the colors don’t stop there. The set is a one-stop shop for colorful seasonal eyeshadows. And, with 10 shade options plus an “artist” brush, it’s a value purchase just under $50.

According to the company, as with all Smashbox products, the Muse Collection was created with the help of the makeup artists working at Smashbox Studios in Los Angeles.  Each product was artistically created based upon the view from behind the camera lens, for a look that is as flawless as a finished photograph.

Similar to a child’s paint set, the Artist Eye Palette in Muse features 10 classic eyeshadow shades in a row: biscuit, chocolate, soft green, dark celery green, light silver-blue, dark blue-grey, sheer lilac, deep orchid, rose copper and coffee. The colors are very light in pigment but feature classic ingredients like mica, nylon-12 and silica, and look fabulous layered over a color-rich waterproof eyeliner. The standout hue in the collection is sheer lilac – it works as a highlighter with a subtle pink/lavender sheen.

Shoppers will fast forward to Spring with this colorful eyeshadow palette at a reasonable price point.
