Avene Hits It Big With Tinted Compact SPF 50

Sensitive skin care brand Avene combined mineral makeup with a broad-spectrum sun protection in its new High Protection Tinted Compact SPF 50 ($29). This water resistant, hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic facial foundation is formulated with 100% mineral sunscreen and patented pre-tocopheryl, according to the company. It is available in two shades: beige and honey.

Happi tested the Beige Compact. Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide provide broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection, and,  yes, it really works. Most sun care products range around 15 or 30 for the face, so it’s nice to have some extra coverage for sunny outdoor summer days. The formulation is rich and creamy in texture yet wears quite weightless. Application is via a makeup sponge housed in a separate section of the compact, which features quite a bit of product information on the front. But don’t judge a book by its cover—this product is a winner for skin care/cosmetics with SPF!
