Artisan Candles Appeal to the Senses

By Melissa Meisel, Associate Editor | April 25, 2014

Mer-Sea home fragrances give thanks to the art of candle making.

Independent candle company Mer-Sea & Co puts a lot of thought into every product and believes that details matter, it contends, as mindful products and minimal packaging are central to its development process. Products start from the inside out with an artisan soy wax blend, handpoured in the US using fresh fragrances and packaged in beautiful canvas bags sewn locally.

According to sources at the company, its name is a blend of “thanks” and the French word for sea (mer). It retails nationally in resort locations such as Key West, FL and Laguna Beach, CA. Scent stories vary from warm sand, a blend of eucalyptus and mint over cloves and cinnamon with a musky, sweet vanilla and a touch of patchouli; to cool breeze, a minty and invigorating fragrance with crisp water top notes perfectly balanced with fresh herbs, woody bamboo, spearmint and peppermint.

The packaging palette used is sea-salt bleached hues of white, gray and blue mixed with little flashes of silver and is the fusion of all the colors found in the sea. Capping off the creations are quotes from bright minds such as Ralph Waldo Emerson.
