GERMANY: Arch Personal Care Products, South Plainfield, NJ, has earned the 2009 BSB Innovation Prize for its Metabiotics Resveratrol, a new cosmetic ingredient with anti-inflammatory and collagen-enhancing properties that make it ideal for use in anti-aging skin and facial care products.
An independent jury—comprised of Dr. Sven Munke (Unilever), Dr. Sven Gohla (LaPrairie Group), Dr. Wolfgang Irrgang (Mibelle Cosmetics), Dr. Rainer Lange, (J&J) and Dr. Alfred Markwetz (P&G)—selected Arch as the winner in the Most Innovative Raw Material category.
Metabiotics Resveratrol is created by fusion technologies involving the synergistic combination of yeast (pichia pastoris) and resveratrol obtained from the giant Japanese knotweed. The technology focuses on natural bio-transformation of plant-derived phytochemicals such as resveratrol during the fermentation process.
Arch Personal Care Products won second place in the BSB Innovation awards in 2005 for Arch Biodynes 03, an innovative product used in skin care formulations.
