Alberto-Culver Co., Melrose Park, IL, said its quarterly profit rose 17%, beating Wall Street estimates, on robust sales of its beauty care products and improved profit margins.
Alberto-Culver, which also owns the Sally Beauty Co. chain, said it earned $42.6 million in the third quarter ended on June 30, up from $36.4 million a year earlier. Net sales rose 8% to $736.1 million from $681.1 million.
Chief executive officer Howard Bernick said in a statement that the company expects to post record earnings and sales for the fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30.
