Estee Lauder Cos. Inc. will open new cosmetics departments in Kohl's Corp. department stores, the two companies said on Tuesday, moving Estee Lauder into a faster growing outlet than its typical department store venues. Kohl's, a chain of mid-priced department stores, will carry exclusive brands to be developed by BeautyBank, a new division of Estee Lauder that will provide branded cosmetics and skin care for Kohl's.
The deal makes Estee Lauder the sole provider of branded cosmetics at Kohl's 542 stores. An Estee Lauder spokeswoman said the company had not yet determined when the cosmetics departments would open.
Rival department store chain J.C. Penney Co. Inc. ended a similar deal with Avon Products Inc. in January. The retailer had said it was dropping Avon and most other cosmetics and skin care products to expand and upgrade its popular women's accessories section.
As well as cosmetics sold under the Estee Lauder name, the New York beauty company also sells under brands including Clinique, Bobbi Brown, Tommy Hilfiger, Donna Karan, Aveda, and Prescriptives.
