Anglo-Dutch food and household goods maker Unilever announced co-chairman Niall FitzGerald will retire on Oct. 1. He has held the post for more than seven years and will be replaced by foods director Patrick Cescau.
Mr. FitzGerald joined Unilever in 1967 and became financial director in 1987. He served in executive posts in the foods and detergents divisions before becoming co-chairman in September 1996. He was chiefly responsible for the company's decision several years ago to focus on 400 core brands to improve its financial performance.
