Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin has issued subpoenas to four top Gillette executives after the company said e-mail about the pending acquisition by Procter & Gamble may have been deleted.
The subpoenas come amid a court battle over Galvin's attempts to examine documents and e-mail from Gillette in his investigation of the $57 billion deal. Galvin has questioned whether P&G is paying too little for Gillette.
The four executives are chief financial officer Charles W. Cramb; Edward De Graan, vice chairman of Gillette's board of directors; Peter Klein, manager of strategic and business development and human resources manager Edward Guillet. All four are expected to offer sworn testimony next week, according to copies of the subpoenas.
"The only way we can get to the bottom of this deal is to get the individuals who were intimately involved in the negotiation on the record about the transaction," commented Galvin.
