The demand for beauty services is increasing and massage is at the top of women’s wish list. According to. A. McEvoy and Associates LLC, a specialty retail customer marketing consultation company, massage care is the top request at 67% of women who would like this service.
According to the National Institute of Health, about 20 million Americans receive massage therapy and body work each year and approximately 50,000 massage and body work practitioners provide 45 million one-hour therapy sessions each year. Professional teeth whitening followed with 60%. Professional facials, general visits to a day spa, salon manicures and salon hair styling are listed as 55%, 54%, 53% and 50%, respectively. At 45% and 40%, staying at a destinations spa and salon pedicures are growing trends. Visits to dermatologists for anti-aging/preventative treatments are becoming more widely accepted. In fact, 36% of women would like some. Professional hair removal (35%) is a new trend, which has challenged waxing and tweezing. Due to concern about sun exposure, tanning salons ranked lower at 33%.
