Cognis Corp. will expand its plant in Kankakee, IL and will close its Hoboken, NJ site. The changes allow Cognis to expand its Midwest-based ISO certified facility. The Hoboken site operates in a residential location and was precluding the company from making large-scale investments, company executives said. Cognis plans on completing the transition by the third quarter of 2003.

In other news, the company has obtained a sulfation-capacity charter with a leading North American surfactant producer.

The company also announced that Cognis Düsseldorf and Norwegian company Natural ASA signed an agreement in September. The venture grants Cognis an exclusive license in key markets under Natural ASAs conjugated linoleic acid (CL); intellectual property and technology and the Tonalin trademark.
