EUROPE: The European Union (EU) commission has pronounced titanium dioxide safe for use as a UV filter in cosmetic products. Previously the ingredient was only provisionally authorized.

The 26th Amendment to the European Cosmetics Directive has officially accepted titanium dioxide as a UV filter that is safe in up to a 25% concentration.
