Sales of L’Oréal products in the Chinese market reached $106.75 million in 2002, a 61.3% increase from the previous year, company executives said.
L’Oréal’s Chinese mainland sales growth topped all its subsidiaries globally, according to the company’s annual report. However, the company has not yet reached a decision to acquire domestic brands on the Chinese mainland, although negotiations began last year.
“We have no scheme on hand to purchase any local brands,” said Paolo Gasparrini, president, L’Oréal China Co. Ltd. “Rather, our priority goes to promoting our brands such as Lancôme and Maybelline.”
