NSF International, a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization, launched its new Clean Hands Across America initiative in December. The campaign kicked off during National Handwashing Week, Dec. 7-13, 2003.

Clean Hands Across America aims to educate children, parents, grandparents and educators on proper handwashing techniques to curtail the transmission of disease. Representatives from the educational and medical communities, including teachers, school nurses and physicians, were invited to participate in the program.

“We want children to understand the importance of proper and routine handwashing,” said Kevin P. Lawlor, NSF’s president and chief executive officer. “As people spend more time indoors during the winter months, preventing the spread of viruses and bacteria becomes a challenge. The goal of our campaign is to encourage healthy habits during the upcoming months and throughout the year, with a special focus on protecting our children.”

NSF developed a range of initiatives to encourage proper handwashing practices. More info: Website: www.nsfconsumer.org.
