The Synthetic Organic Chemical Manu- facturers Association (SOCMA) members have furthered their commitment to voluntary site security practices with the completion of security vulnerability assessments (SVAs) at their facilities.
The completion of the SVAs was required as part of the industry’s Responsible Care program, which promotes continuous improvement in environmental, health, safety and security performance. SOCMA members adopted the security program as part of Responsible Care.
“SOCMA members recognize that security has always been and continues to be a critical issue,” said Joseph Acker, SOCMA’s president. “Our members are taking proactive and collaborative measures to protect their employees, neighbors, products and facilities. Security is an integral part of how they conduct business.”
Mr. Acker added that in 2004, SOCMA will continue its aggressive outreach campaign to educate all custom, specialty batch chemical manufacturers on the requirements of the Responsible Care security program and to deliver tools and resources to assist with implementation.
