All Degrees of Psoriasis Negatively Impact Life

November 15, 2005

Approximately 1.75 million adults in the U.S. say their psoriasis is a problem in everyday life, and more than 1 million are dissatisfied with current treatments, according to an article in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology based on a poll of 27,000 adults by the National Psoriasis Foundation. More than 4.5 million adults in the U.S. have psoriasis, but only 120,000 have extensive amounts across their bodies.
“This suggests that we must look beyond the amount of surface area of a patient’s body covered with psoriasis to fully understand the impact the disease has on a person’s life,” insisted author Robert S. Stern, MD, Psoriasis Foundation medical board member and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center dermatology professor. More info: www.psoriasis.org.
