Rugs Are Allergies’ Worst Enemy

November 15, 2005

Consumers are indoors 90% of the time, yet indoor air contaminants surpass outdoor ones, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Rug Renovating, East Orange, NJ. Symptoms of a polluted indoor environment from bacteria, mold and other contaminants include fatigue, runny nose, dry cough, skin irritations and dizziness.
A study found tobacco smoke has more than 4,000 different toxins. Executives said the biggest pollutant trap at home is carpets and rugs, which trap harmful fungi, pesticides and dust mites. Experts said the best ways to cut down on sickness and allergies are professional hot extraction cleaning techniques, which are 100% to 1,500% more effective than regular vacuum cleaners.
