The Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufac- turers Association (SOCMA) signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in June to coordinate the efforts of the Responsible Care program and EPA’s performance track program.
The Responsible Care program promotes continuous improvement in environmental, health and safety performance. EPA’s performance track program recognizes top environmental performance.
Executives said the goals of the agreement are:
• to coordinate the efforts of Responsible Care and performance track for achieving continuous environmental improvement;
• to encourage greater participation in Performance Track;
• to recognize and encourage the increased emphasis within Responsible Care on performance measurement and third-party certification and
• to increase awareness and recognition of the environmental results achieved through the Responsible Care program and the program’s potential for addressing key areas of environmental concern.
“I am very excited about SOCMA and EPA’s continued collaboration on innovative environmental efforts,” said Joseph Acker, president, SOCMA. “This agreement, in addition to SOCMA’s partnership with EPA’s Sector Strategies program, demonstrates our ongoing commitment to work together on coordinating environmental performance activities for the specialty-batch chemical sector.”
