Engelhard Corp., Iselin, NJ, has acquired The Collaborative Group, Ltd., including its wholly-owned subsidiary Collaborative Laboratories. Executives said the merger creates a unique combination of technical capabilities, such as Engelhard’s surface and materials expertise and Collaborative’s special materials capability and technical knowledge. The purchase also enhances Engelhard’s position as a materials technology supplier with performance-based materials to moisturize and protect skin. “It supports our growth strategy to broaden our competencies in surface and materials science and expand our portfolio of applications and served markets,” commented Barry W. Perry, Engelhard’s chairman and chief executive officer.
The deal includes Collaborative’s manufacturing facility in East Setau-ket, NY, R&D labs in Stony Brook, NY, and more than 100 employees. Collab-orative offers full-spectrum testing and product development services.
“We are pleased that our employees, who helped to build value in our business, now will have the opportunity to see that business grow around the world and to be part of such a widely respected organization,” said Dr. James A. Hayward, Collaborative founder and Engelhard’s vice president of personal care and life sciences.
