Fragrance Foundation Honors Pete Born

November 22, 2005

Each year, The Fragrance Foundation celebrates one outstanding professional by issuing him or her the Circle of Champions award during Fragrance Week.
This year, the Foundation bestowed the honor on Pete Born, 27-year veteran of Women’s Wear Daily and Fairchild Publications (as current vice president/associate publisher and executive editor, beauty, respectively).
Mr. Born received the award at the Circle of Champions dinner in Manhattan on Oct. 26.
“(Mr. Born is) an unsung hero in this industry,” said Edward Nardoza, editor in chief, Women’s Wear Daily and associate editorial director, Fairchild Publications. “He has shared both the good times and the bad times with us.”
Mr. Born had a much more humble reaction to the news that he had been chosen as the fifth Circle of Champions recipient. “When Rochelle (Bloom, president of The Fragrance Foundation) called, I thought she was joking,” he insisted. “Then I asked her if she meant someone else.”
This aura of humility, coupled with a sense of humor, has helped Mr. Born throughout his career. “The beauty retail landscape has changed from a handful of French brands to an institution,” he pointed out. “Amid the many changes, one thing hasn’t changed: You’re only as good as the people around you.”
As the fifth Circle of Champions winner, Mr. Born joins other inductees Leonard Lauder, Guy Peyrelongue, Annette Green and Dale Cameron.rn joins other inductees Leonard Lauder, Guy Peyrelongue, Annette Green and Dale Cameron.
