The National Association of Container Distributors (NACD) recognized Hawaiian Tropic for its excellence in innovation by honoring the company with the Merit award for the packaging of the Ozone Sport SPF 60 convenience pack. This award serves as an honorable mention for superior package innovation. The convenience pack includes a full-size 8-oz. bottle with a detachable 2-oz. travel-size bottle for on-the-go sun protection. The bottles attach and detach using a custom mold and locking system. According to company executives, the package was rigorously tested to ensure that it would be stable and not come apart at retail. On the back of the package a safety seal is attached to ensure complete assembly from plant to consumer.
Hawaiian Tropic was also recognized at the Dupont Packaging awards competition, where it received the Silver award for the Oil Free Faces SPF 30 sunblock package. The package features a matte blue translucent flamingo pump that sits atop a pearlescent white package. It also has a built-in functional mirror that has caught the eye of consumers, according to company executives.
“This package reflects the consumer’s wants
and needs in a daily sunblock,” said Stephanie Mellenberndt, director of marketing for Hawaiian Tropic. “We have been able to meet the two major trends of consumers—convenience and portability."
