Profit Surges in Estée Lauder’s First Quarter

Estée Lauder reported profit for the first fiscal quarter ended Sept. 30 rose 23%, helped by strong international sales and new brands. The company posted net income of $95 million for the quarter, up from $77.7 million in the year-ago period. First-quarter sales rose 12% to $1.5 billion.
By category, skin care sales rose 13% to $524.3 million compared to the year-ago period. Makeup sales increased 23% to $599.5 million. Both were helped by recent new product launches, Estée Lauder executives said. Sales of fragrance fell 6% to $311.7 million. Hair care product sales grew 15% to $63.1 million.
