More than half of Americans surveyed admitted to being just like Mom—when it comes to cleaning, that is. According to The Soap and Detergent Association’s (SDA) 2005 Spring Cleaning survey conducted by International Communications Research (ICR), 56% of the people surveyed said they clean much like their mothers did, but 55% said they use different types of cleaning products than the previous generation of house cleaners used. When asked what ways they most differ from Mom, 17% cited that they clean less frequently than their mothers did, 13% said there are more modern conveniences that make cleaning easier and 10% cited a wider variety of cleaning products are available.
“When it comes to cleaning, parents are a big influence in our behaviors,” commented Nancy Bock, SDA vice president of education. “And when it comes to product selection, we have the industry to thank. The innovation and science behind the products make it easy to clean our home more effectively and efficiently.”
