UGANDA: Bidco Oil Refineries, manufacturer of vegetable oils, fats, margarine, soaps and protein concentrates, has started full-scale production in Uganda following the completion of their plant at Masese, Jinja.
“The plant is ready and in production. The products are already in the market and we are looking at our distribution outlets,” Bidco’s head of communications, Patterson Siema, said. He added that because of Jinja’s strategic location, the company is now exporting to Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo. They are also looking at the southern Sudan market. The current demand for edible oils is 650,000 metric tonnes per day.
The $25 million plant is a complex of three plants for manufacturing edible oil, soap and plastic. Mr. Siema said the company employs 1,200 people on a permanent part-time basis.
