Playtex 2Q Profit Declines 25%

Playtex Products, Inc., maker of feminine, skin and infant care products, reported that second-quarter profit fell 25% on one-time charges. Quarterly income fell to $6.2 million from $8.3 million last year. Excluding debt retirement, restructuring and other charges, the company reported earnings of $8.9 million up from $6.1 million a year ago. Revenue for the period fell 5% to $177 million from $185.5 million last year. Feminine care sales were nearly flat, infant care sales fell 5%, and skin care sales rose 2% from a year ago.
