At SCC Supplier’s Day 2005, Uniqema focused on personal care ingredients and technology that will comprise what the company calls the “formulation of the future.” Company executives pointed to a number of trends that are affecting the way consumers choose personal care products today and that will increasingly influence the development and market share of offerings in the future. These included reduced reliance on traditional preservatives in formulations; the use of emollients, emulsifiers and adjuvants to enhance the delivery of active ingredients for next generation products; new options for UV protection; and an overall trend toward milder formulations.
According to Craig Aiken, director of sales, keeping track of consumer preferences is critical to developing offerings for the personal care industry. “Uniqema is acutely interested in the consumer trends that will drive the market of the future,” explained Mr. Aiken. “Much like the consumer product companies, we need to know what consumers are thinking in order to develop our offerings—and this is particularly the case because we are involved in the very earliest phases of the product development cycle.”
