Noveon: Noveon, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Lubrizol Corp., announced key appointments to the senior leadership of its Personal Care and Pharmaceuticals (PCP) global business unit, a manufacturer of advanced specialty chemicals for personal care products. Named to the senior leadership team is Thomas Malafronte, senior vice president and general manager. Mr. Malafronte recently assumed responsibilities as senior vice president and general manager after joining Noveon in January 2005 as global sales director for the PCP business unit.

Degussa: Philip Munson was appointed site manager to oversee production for the care specialties and oligomers and silicones business units at its Goldschmidt Chemical Corporation facilities in Hopewell, VA. Munson’s career at Degussa spans more than 10 years, including service as a project manager and plant engineer at facilities in Mobile, AL. For the past three years, he has been the engineering services manager for Goldschmidt’s plant in Janesville, WI.
Induchem USA: Nancy Weinmaster has been hired as West Coast account manager for the company’s new sales office in Santa Monica, CA. She has worked in R&D management in the personal care field for 15 years, most recently as senior director of R&D for Guthy-Renker.
Seppic Inc.: David Krempels has joined the company as sales representative, covering the metro NJ sales region. He holds a BS in chemical engineering from Rutgers University and is a member of NYSCC. He was previously with Croda.
Patricia Singh has been appointed senior account manager, personal care, covering the metro New York area (including Long Island) and New England sales territory. She previously was the director of personal care sales at Bio-Botanica Inc., holds a BS in chemistry from SUNY Stonybrook and is a member of the Long Island SCC.
Clariant Masterbatches: Robert Wick has been named product manager for Clariant Masterbatches Specialty Compounding, headquartered in Millington, MD. In his new role, Mr. Wick will work with sales and marketing staff to identify and serve customers and specifiers of specialty compounded products. He will also assist in the development of new products and applications. Reporting to Marc Alderfer, business manager, specialty compounding, he will maintain an office in Rushford, MN.
International Paper: Robert M. Amen, president, has announced his decision to retire from the company after a brief transition period. He has worked for the company for 26 years in a number of capacities, including assignments in many of the company’s businesses.
Quaker City Chemicals, Inc.: Pamela J. Rogers has been hired as market development manager to work with coatings, ink and paint manufacturers. She was previously employed as a consultant for SpecialChem of Paris, France and also held a number of positions with Rohm and Haas Co. Ms. Rogers has a degree in chemistry/biology from Temple University, Philadelphia.
CTFA: Kathleen Dezio has joined the Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association (CTFA) as executive vice president of public affairs and communications.
Desert Whale Jojoba Co.: Gwendolyn Vestraci Holt has been appointed the West Coast regional account manager. She will focus her efforts on managing current accounts and developing new personal care business.
Acuity Brands, Inc.: Richard K. Reece has joined the company as senior vice president and chief financial officer. He has over 25 years of financial and operational experience, most recently as vice president, finance and chief financial officer of Belden CDT, Inc. Karen J. Holcom, who has served as interim chief financial officer of Acuity Brands, will continue to serve as vice president and controller.
Estée Lauder Cos.: Lynne Greene was promoted to president of the Clinique brand. Ms. Greene was formerly president of Estée Lauder’s specialty group worldwide division, where she oversaw the Prescriptives, La Mer and Jo Malone brands. She has worked at the company for 18 years.
The company also announced that Maureen Case will become president of the Jo Malone and La Mer brands. She will continue in her current role as president of Bobbi Brown Worldwide and will continue to report to Patrick Bousquet-Chavanne, group president.
Hill Top Research: Dr. Rossmeri Mon-talvo, M.D., MBA., has been hired as site director. He will be responsible for the clinical research operations at the West Palm Beach and Miamiville, OH Oral Care research centers.
Dr. Joseph A. Kanapka, Ph.D., has been hired as technical director. He will be responsible for the technical quality of the studies conducted in West Palm Beach and the Miamiville locations. He will also participate with Hill Top’s Technical Team to identify and lead the company into new areas of technology that support the company’s strategic direction. Dr. Kanapka has extensive experience in oral care product development and will consult on all oral care studies performed at Hill Top Research.
Markwins International: James R. Koeppl, senior vice president and general manager of Markwins Beauty Products, has been promoted to president of the new U.S. and Canada cosmetic division, Markwins North America.
Shiseido Co. Ltd.: Heidi Manheimer was promoted to chief executive officer of Shiseido Cosmetics (America) Ltd. She will be the first woman to hold the CEO title in the company’s 133-year history. She succeeds Toshio Negami, who will return to Shiseido’s Tokyo headquarters to assume the post of general manager of the America’s dept.
European Compliance Academy: Daniel Scheidegger, vice president of operations and managing director of Genzyme Pharmaceuticals Liestal, has been appointed the new ECA chairman.
HNC Products, Inc.: Mark Moroni has been promoted to plant manager from plant engineer. Ripal Parikh has joined the company as process engineer. Daniel Toohil has joined HNC as plant engineer. Jared Patterson has been appointed logistics coordinator.
DermaNew: Dean Rhodes, chief executive officer and co-founder of Derma- New, recently graduated from Harvard Business School’s owner/president management program. The intensive program led by Harvard’s entrepreneurial business faculty is an executive educational program designed to give business owners valuable insight from reality-based case studies.
Mastertaste Inc.: Paul Hood has been appointed general manager of the company’s Zesty Smoke team in Crossville, TN. Mr. Hood joined Mastertaste through its acquisition of Hickory Specialties and its Zesty Smoke brand in 2001. Most recently, he served as general manager of Mastertaste’s west coast facility in Commerce, CA.
Essential Ingredients: In conjunction with its expansion into the northeast, Mike Manning has been appointed business manager for the northeast region. Tony Casas has also joined the Essential Ingredients team as sales executive for the northeast.
Ecolab Inc.: Allan L. Schuman will retire as chairman on May 12 and will be replaced by president and chief executive Douglas M. Baker. Mr. Schuman joined Ecolab in 1957 as a junior salesman and has since served in a variety of management positions, including CEO. Mr. Baker has been CEO since 2004.
Revlon: Debra L. Lee, president and chief executive of Black Entertainment Television, and Kathi P. Seifert, chairman of consulting firm Pinnacle Perspectives, have been elected to Revlon’s board, boosting its size to 12 directors.
Avon Products Inc: Bennett R. Gallina, previously senior vice president of Asia-Pacific, was named senior vice president overseeing China, Western Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
John Higson, formerly area vice president of Central and Eastern Europe, has been named senior vice president for Central and Eastern Europe.
Avon also promoted James Wei, previously vice president of new markets and strategic planning for Asia Pacific, to senior vice president, Asia Pacific.
