DSM Acquires Pentapharm

Move strengthens DSM's Claim to No. 1 supplier of active sun and skin care ingredients

DSM Nutritional Products will acquire Pentapharm. A purchase price was not disclosed. Pentapharm, headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, has sales of about E40 million and employs 200. The company has global leading positions in the development and production of active ingredients and system solutions for the cosmetics industry.

With the acquisition of Pentapharm, DSM Nutritional Products strengthens its claim as the No. 1 supplier of active ingredients for skin and sun care.

"We are very pleased with this acquisition, as it further enriches our existing personal care portfolio of vitamins and sun filters with highly-specialized actives based on innovative technologies. Pentapharm's products and brands are well-positioned and are an attractive platform for launching some of the new products we have in the pipeline," said Krijn Rietveld, senior vice president and head of new business development, DSM Nutritional Products.

"This a great step in boosting our innovation potential for personal care, one of the key areas we are committed to build in order to achieve the ambitious growth targets set out in our Vision 2010 strategy," added Stephan Tanda, member of the DSM managing board and responsible for the nutrition cluster of DSM.
