INDIA: Greening Barrens is Hindustan Unilever Ltd.’s new corporate social responsibility program at Mandka Village in Vidarbha, reported The Hindu Business Line.
According to the The Hindu Business Line, this is the second rainwater-harvesting project undertaken by Hindustan Unilever around its soap factory at Khamgaon, in the Buldhana district of Maharashtra. The project is being implemented with the Maharashtra Institute of Technology Transfer for Rural Areas, an organization of the Bharatiya Agro Industries Foundation.
After completing a similar project on 100 acres of land in Parkhed and handing over the management to the villagers, the company is introducing the five-year project in Mandka, on a larger area, of around 569 acres.
