Arch Expands Personal Care Team
Arch Personal Care Products:
announced that Dana Smith and Judith Bernabe have joined the technical marketing department. Ms. Smith has worked at L’Oréal USA as a senior chemist for the SkinCeuticals, Maybelline and Kiehl’s brands. She has also held formulation positions with Inolex Chemical Company and the Revlon Research Center.Ms. Bernabe hails from Silab, where she was a technical sales representative; prior to that, she worked at Estée Lauder as an analytical chemist.
Michelle Maison has joined the Arch Personal Care Products’ Applications Lab. Prior to this, she worked as a formulation chemist for Johnson & Johnson. Vito Cataldo has also joined Arch in R&D as research chemist. He comes to the company from Colgate-Palmolive Company, where he worked as formulation chemist in oral product development.

welcomed Mary Clarke to lead the hydrocolloids business for Lubrizol Advanced Materials in the newly-created position of global business director, hydrocolloids. Ms. Clarke’s experience includes over 15 years at Aqualon/Hercules and Uniqema/Croda focusing on engineering, research and development, marketing, and business management in the natural gums and personal care segments.WD-40:

has appointed David Evans as business director for European operations. Mr. Evans will work closely with major customers to deliver polymer and starch technologies that directly support market trends in Europe. In Eastern Europe and Russia, he will oversee the expansion of sales programs. Most recently, Mr. Evans served as the general manager of the flavors and fragrances business for Quest’s China operations.Beraca:
appointed Tania Fazzi as the new technical assistance manager of its health & personal care division. She will be responsible for the technical support to global customers and international distributors of the company. has appointed Michael Kocher to the newly-created position of senior vice president, innovation scent & care. The objective of the new position is to integrate research, marketing and consumer/market research functions and to consequently orientate them toward innovation. Mr. Kocher comes to Symrise from the competitor Firmenich, having previously worked for the Max Planck Institute and Reckitt Benckiser.The company also hired Massimo Cealti as vice president, consumer & market intelligence. Mr. Cealti has worked for leading companies such as McDonald’s, Nestlé and Coca-Cola, and possesses over 20 years of experience in market research and consumer insight.
The position of senior vice president, fragrance development, has also been created to ensure optimal use of the company’s creative potentials and skills, to establish global standards for fragrance development and to promote an inspiring “fragrance culture” throughout the organization. Béatrice Favre-Bulle, previously head of evaluation Personal Care EAME for Symrise, took over this function.
Estée Lauder:
has appointed Alexandra C. Trower as executive vice president, global communications. She will report to Chief Executive Officer William P. Lauder. A communications executive with more than 20 years experience in the financial services industry, Ms. Trower most recently was senior vice president, media relations for Bank of America. Clarins:
has named industry veteran Philip Shearer as the new president of its executive board. He replaces Christian Courtin-Clarins, who becomes president of the supervisory board. Mr. Shearer joined Clarins last month as executive vice president. Prior to joining the company, he was a group president at Estée Lauder Companies Inc. in New York responsible for the Clinique, Origins, Bumble & Bumble, Aveda and Ojon brands as well as the group’s online businesses. Prior to that, Mr. Shearer was president of the luxury products division at L’Oréal for the U.S. and Japan. He began his career in cosmetics with the Eli Lilly-Arden Group in France, Mexico and the U.S.
SkinMedica:
has appointed Mary M. Fisher as chief executive officer. Ms. Fisher was previously chief operating officer at Acorda Therapeutics, a biotechnology company focused on developing products for the treatment of central nervous system disorders. During her seven years at Acorda, she also served as executive vice president of commercial operations and vice president of marketing and strategic planning. As chief operating officer, she played a key role in Acorda’s success, including its successful IPO and the subsequent strong operating performance and impressive growth in shareholder value. Prior to Acorda, Ms. Fisher was vice president of commercial operations with Cephalon. Her earlier career includes positions with Immunex and Boehringer Ingelheim. Univar:
announced that John Phillpotts, president of Univar Europe, will be leaving the company after a 40-year career with Univar and its predecessors. John McKenzie, Univar Europe vice president, marketing and commercial, has been named acting president of Univar Europe.Murad:
appointed Lori Jacobus as the company’s new vice president of global marketing. According to the company, Ms. Jacobus will take a pivotal lead in driving brand growth and equity through strategic global marketing initiatives, identifying new market opportunities, driving product development, increasing brand profitability and developing an overall growth strategy. announced the appointment of Christine White to the role of public relations manager. appointed Jay Morris as executive vice president of global sales. Reporting to Mr. Morris will be Teresa Smith, vice president of sales, and Emmanuelle Mather, sales and marketing director for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Prior to joining Alterna, Mr. Morris was the vice president of sales for Creative Nail Design and American Crew. CND:
welcomed Heike Ahlers to its international division as regional sales manager for Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. Ms. Ahlers joins CND with over 12 years of experience in the beauty and fashion industries and knowledge of international sales, marketing, distribution, merchandising and retail. She has worked for such companies as California Tan, Dutta and Ipuri Clothing, overseeing key accounts, sales teams and training programs.Ms. Ahlers will support Mischeila Golla, European director of international sales and marketing, in developing strategic growth plans for Eastern Europe. Her direct responsibilities will include managing the Eastern European and Scandinavian distributor accounts and helping to further implement global education programs and market-specific promotions.
Gemini Cosmetics:
announced the appointment of Jonathon D. Needham, a 29-year beauty industry veteran, to the position of vice president of operations and logistics.Most recently, Mr. Needham was senior vice president of Operations North America for the luxury and cosmetic active products division of L’Oréal, topping off a 20-year career with L’Oréal USA. Prior to that, he worked at Colgate-Palmolive Company in an engineering capacity for nine years.
