New Zealand firm Comvita Ltd. has introduced a new skin care line in the U.S. which features the moisturizing and antibacterial properties of Manuka honey. In an article published in Molecular Nutrition and Food Research, Dr. Thomas Henle details a study identifying methylglyoxal as the main antibacterial constituent in New Zealand Manuka honey. Every product in Comvita’s new line contains the highest level of antibacterial activity Manuka honey and other ingredients from sustainable New Zealand sources, including Manuka leaf extract, active keratin from wool, Kawakawa and Kowhai extracts, and macadamia oil. The line, which includes cleansers and toners, moisturizers, a skin whitener, body lotion and soap, is housed in packaging that evokes honeycomb cells.
