SCC Installs 2009 Board at Annual Meeting
The Society of Cosmetic Chemists installed its 2009 Board of Directors on Dec. 12 at its Annual Scientific Meeting in New York City. Maison G. De Navarre Young Scientist Prize
The International Federation of Societies of Cosmetics Chemists (IFSCC) has opened the competition for the Maison G. de Navarre Young Scientist Prize. This prize is granted annually to enable a young cosmetic scientist to attend either a Congress or Conference of the IFSCC. This year, the winner will be invited to the 20th IFSCC Conference to be held in Melbourne, Australia in October.
Applicants should submit an essay of no less than 500 words in English on one of the following topics: “Cosmetics from outside and cosmetics from inside: Opening new horizons on cosmetic science,” “Sun and skin, not always good friends. How cosmetics improve their relationship,” Sustainability and social responsibility. How can the cosmetic industry ensure a better future?,” “Cosmetic: Science of sciences,” and “From the ancient Egyptian times to the techno world, are cosmetics still looking for eternal youth?”
The essay must be sent electronically to the IFSCC secretariat (ifscc.scs@ btconnect.com) with a completed entry form (available from local societies) by June 1. A copy must also be sent to the office of the member society.
Applicants must be members of good standing in his or her society, which in turn must be current in its Federation subscription. Applicants must submit proof that they are actively employed in a technical capacity in the cosmetic industry or related academia and that he or she meets the requirements. NY, LI Joint Ski Trip is Feb. 6
The New York and Long Island chapters of the SCC will hold their annual ski trip at Windham Mountain on Friday, Feb. 6. A bus will depart from Paramus, NJ at 6:45 a.m. and will return by approximately 7:30 p.m. Non-alcoholic drinks and snacks will be provided during the ride. Basics and Theory in Emulsion Technology is Feb. 10
The SCC will hold “Practical Basics and Theory in Emulsion Technology,” Feb. 10 at the Sheraton Newark Airport hotel in Newark, NJ. The course will provide an introduction to emulsions including definitions and physical chemistry as well as designing emulsions, ingredients and suppliers, emulsion concepts (such as behavior, location and phases, viscosity and rheology), evaluations of emulsions and processing of emulsions.
The instructor is John Carson, a consultant with more than 35 years of experience in personal care product formulation having worked with Colgate, J&J, Avon, L’Oréal and Croda.
