Cognis Adds Regional Sales Managers in West

Margie Best has recently joined Cognis as the regional sales manager, Mid-Western region. Prior to this appointment, she was a senior account manager for personal care with International Specialty Products. Ms. Best will be responsible for all direct and indirect sales activities for Cognis Care Chemicals out of the greater Chicago region.
Desert Whale Jojoba: added another member to its sales and distribution network—Shagufta Meghji, who will serve the cosmetic industry throughout Canada. Ms. Meghji has been involved in the cosmetic industry for more than 13 years.

Pilot Chemical Company: appointed David Ligon to its board. He is currently the founder and managing partner of Brightwell Capital Partners, LLC, an asset management and advisory firm serving privately held U.S.-based businesses in Los Angeles, CA. Prior to founding Brightwell in 2008, he worked for Emporia Capital Management, Union Bank, Wells Fargo Bank, First Interstate Bank and Bank of America.
Research Institute for Fragrance Materials: added a technical writer, Joseph Scognamiglio, to its human health sciences program. He will primarily be responsible for working on group summaries and fragrance material reviews. Mr. Scognamiglio succeeds Leah Jones,who now is a respiratory specialist there.
InterParfums: named Gary McNatton of Through Smoke Creative, Sausalito, CA, as its creative director for Gap personal care products. In his new post, Mr. McNatton will provide creative direction for the Gap brand. He has a long association with Gap Inc., having served as its senior vice president for personal care products for eight years until 2002.
Christian Dior: appointed Terry Darland president of North America for Christian Dior Perfumes. Ms. Darland was most recently general manager of North America for the company. She joined the company in 2004.
Coty: appointed Renato Semerari as president of the company’s Coty Beauty division. Mr. Semerari will manage all Coty brands available in mass distribution in the Americas, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
Among his key responsibilities, Mr. Semerari will seek new business ventures and collaborations, as well as oversee the continued development and expansion of the Coty Beauty portfolio. He will also serve as a member of Coty’s Executive Committee.
Mr. Semerari started his career in 1986 with Procter & Gamble where he held a series of positions of increasing responsibility. While at P&G, he worked across all categories of the marketing department for personal care, oral care, skin care, paper and detergents, in both Italy and the United Kingdom. He has also held positions at LVMH as international marketing director of Parfums Christian Dior, and president and chief executive officer of Guerlain.
Prior to his appointment at Coty, Mr. Semerari served as the president and chief executive officer of Sephora Europe since October 2007. He will take leadership of Coty Beauty this month, replacing Hans Joachim Honigfort, who will retire in the fall after seven years with Coty.
WSL Strategic Retail: named Randi Diane Fater vice president of sales. She has more than 20 years experience in brand sales and national marketing. Ms. Fater’s experience includes serving as sales director for DenTek Oral Care, senior national account manager for Del Pharmaceuticals and vice president of sales at Lake Pharmaceuticals. She received abachelor’s degree in Spanish from Upsala College, and a master’s of business administration from Keller Graduate School.
