Wacker Completes Shanghai Technical Center Expansion
CHINA: Wacker has finished the €1 million expansion of its Shanghai Technical Center located at Shanghai Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park. The facility now houses more than 10 labs for the company’s silicone and polymer activities. The investment is intended to boost the company’s local research and development competency and ensure optimum customer support in the Chinese market.
The expansion has doubled the total floor space of the technical center to 3,400 square meters. In addition to enlarging and modernizing existing labs, several new labs have been set up to meet growing market needs. In addition, training and application development capacities have been enhanced and the sales office and technical center are now under one roof, allowing sales and development teams to collaborate more closely.

Symrise Strengthens Presence In Arab World
UAE: Symrise has expanded its presence in Dubai with a branch that contains both a sales office and application laboratories. The office employs 15 staffers, whose primary duties will be to conduct local and regional sales as well as to coordinate the attendant marketing work.

CPL Aromas Opens Site in Dubai
UAE: CPL Aromas has opened a new facility located in the Jebel Ali Free Zone of Dubai.
The new facility incorporates a full service creative perfumery and applications lab with two resident perfumers, including the group’s director of perfumery. The site also has a large warehouse stocking a range of fragrances suitable for a variety of applications that can be delivered quickly and efficiently thanks to the modern and reliable transportation infrastructure within Dubai.
CPL said the Dubai site will also serve the Indian sub continent region and certain East African countries.

Bliss Opens First Spa in Middle East
QATAR: Bliss spa continues to expand globally, stretching its beauty footprint via new W Hotels. Following its Asian debut last year at the W Hong Kong, a Bliss spa is now operating in the Middle East at the new W Doha in Qatar.
Bliss Doha, which officially opened its doors in March, is an 8,000 sq. ft. facility featuring a retail beauty boutique, three movie-while-you-manicure stations, two pedicure lounges and nine treatment rooms.
Bliss currently has 13 spa locations worldwide and plans to open another dozen by 2011.

IFF Adds Caplock Production Capability
UNITED KINGDOM: International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) has completed a new CapLock production line at its European Center of Excellence for Flavor Delivery Systems and Encapsulation in Haverhill, UK. The addition of IFF’s advanced flavor encapsulation and delivery system here builds upon the company’s prior investment in a CapLock production line in the same facility.
CapLock is a delivery system for encapsulating flavors in products requiring shelf-life stability over extended periods.
IFF celebrated the opening of the new production line with a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony in April. This expanded capability is part of a global effort to provide state-of-the-art product solutions for its customers, and follows the opening of new creative centers in Shanghai, China and São Paulo, Brazil earlier this year, according to the company.

Green Earth Technologies Names Canadian Distributor
CANADA: Green Earth Technologies, a Stamford, CT-based manufacturer and marketer of green consumer packaged goods and products, has inked adistribution deal with Sustainable Earth Products International, (DEPI), based in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Under the agreement, SEPI will be the master distributor of the full line of "G"-Branded products to Canada and certain Caribbean islands.
Green Earth’s products, which are recyclable, renewable, biodegradable and environmental friendly, include G-Wash Heavy Duty Car Wash and G-Clean Organic Glass Cleaners.

Indian Company Barred from Using ‘Cliniq’ Name
INDIA: According to a report in the Hindu Business Line, the Delhi High Court has restrained Mumbai-based Gufic Biosciences Ltd. from using the Cliniq brand name because it is deceptively similar to Estée Lauder’s well-known Clinique brand.
Anuradha Salhotra, a partner with Lall Lahiri & Salhotra, the firm that represented Estée Lauder in the matter, told the paper, “An interim injunction was passed a few months ago, restraining Gufic Ltd and Gufic Biosciences from using the word Cliniq as a part of its trademark ‘Skin Cliniq Stretch Nil’ as it was deceptively similar. The court has now made permanent the interim injunction passed in December last year.”
CavinKare Revamps Spinz Line
INDIA: CavinKare is relaunching its the Spinz deodorant and talc brand with new packaging and a new brand ambassador, actor Genelia D’souza, According to a report in the Hindu Business Line, the new campaign will feature TV commercials, road shows and meet-the-celebrity programs.
According a company official, Spinz currently has a 5% share of deodorant market in the country.
