NYSCC Event To Benefit ‘Look Good Feel Better’

On Jan. 23, 2010, the New York Chapter of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists (NYSCC) will hold a special chairman’s charity event to benefit the Personal Care Product Council’s “Look Good Feel Better” program.

Look Good Feel Better is a free, non-medical, brand-neutral, national public service program founded in 1989. The program is supported by corporate donors to help women offset appearance-related changes from cancer treatment.

With the historic Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal (CRRNJ) at Liberty State Park as the backdrop, there will be an educational poster session on the industry’s early years in the U.S. featuring both marketing and supplier companies.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a one-hour cruise of the New York harbor aboard a chartered yacht (warm beverages included). A local historian will share the history of the harbor during the cruise. At the CRRNJ, the educational poster session/cocktail hour will begin at 7:30 p.m. followed by a three-course buffet dinner with entertainment.

Registration fees are $85 per person for the dinner and cruise or $800 for a table of 10. Dinner tickets (cocktail hour, buffet and dancing) are $75 per person. Tickets are also available for the cruise only.

According to NYSCC, $15 per person will be donated, with a total donation of $10,000 be made to Look Good Feel Better.

To register by mail, send check to: Diana Baracaldo of Dow Corning, 1936 Hempstead Turnpike, Suite 203, East Meadow, NY 11554. Online registration is available.

SCC Monograph Covers Colorants Used in Cosmetics

SCC’s latest monograph—Colorants Used in the Cosmetics Industry—is now available for purchase online. The purpose of this work is to give the reader a general idea and overview of the basic concepts and principles of color usage in the cosmetics industry.

Basic knowledge along with hands-on experience will show how color can be understood and used successfully in cosmetic products to develop shades as well as adjust and modify shades using cosmetically acceptable colorants.

The colorant monograph includes all of the acceptable color additives that are currently being used in the decorative and color cosmetics industry, according to SCC.

Unlike most texts on this subject which contain a very large amount of tables, graphs and charts, the authors put this work together with the practical use of color in mind—it is more of a “how to” source of information, according to SCC. The monograph is $25.

All SCC monographs can also be ordered by phone by calling Helen McCarren, (212) 668-1500.
