U.S. Patent No. 7,622,132 B2; ELC Management, LLC, New York, NY, has been awarded a U.S. patent for a topically applied composition that is comprised of at least one frangible capsule having a seamless shell of a thermo-softening material that is solid at room temperature. The capsule will rupture when the composition is rubbed on the skin’s surface and will melt upon application to the skin. The thermo-softening material is gelatin- and plasticizer-free. The core cosmetic encapsulated by the seamless shell has a shade that is visible through the shell; and a cosmetically acceptable base containing the frangible capsule suspended therein.
Hair Loss Reduction Composition
U.S. Patent No. 7,622,103 B1; Jill M. Cielo of Vero Beach, FL has patented a treatment formulation for reducing hair loss and promoting hair life. It consists of water; ammonium lauryl sulfate; a mixture of sodium laureth sulfate and disodium oleamide MEA sulfosuccinate and cocamide DEA and cocamidopropyl betaine; a mixture of alkyloxypolyethyleneoxyethanol and tall oil MEA and tetrasodium EDTA; cocamidopropyl betaine; a mixture of propylene glycol and diazolidinyl urea and methylparaben and propylparaben; sodium bisulfate; tetrasodium EDTA; fragrance; sodium chloride and an enzyme mixture.
Cleaning Composition Patented by Colgate
U.S. Patent No. 7,622,436 B2; Colgate-Palmolive has patented a cleaning composition made of water; diisopropyl adipate or dipropyl adipate; C12-14 alcohol polyethylene glycol (ethoxy) ether sulfate; cocoamidopropylamine oxide or lauryl myristyl isopropyl amine oxide; and C9-11 alkanol with a degree of ethoxylation of 5 moles. The composition is a microemulsion or microemulsion preconcentrate.
Concentrated Fabric Softener Patented by Sun Products Corp.
U.S. Patent No. 7,625,858 B2; The Sun Products Corp., Wilton, CT, has patented a concentrated liquid fabric softening composition. It contains an ester-linked triethanolamine (TEA) quaternary ammonium fabric softening material comprising a mixture of mono-, di- and tri-ester linked components, a single long chain cationic surfactant and a co-fragmenting agent. The TEA quaternary ammonium fabric softening material contains at least 10% mono-ester (by weight of the quaternary material) and has an iodine value between 0-60. The single long chain cationic surfactant has one or more ethoxylate groups and preferably has a methylsulphate counter-ion. The co-fragmenting agent is a sugar or sugar alcohol.
L’Oréal Patents Cosmetic for Treating Keratin Materials
U.S. Patent No. 7,621,966 B2; L’Oréal S.A., Paris, France, has been awarded a U.S. patent for a composition for treating keratin materials. It comprises, in a cosmetically acceptable medium, electrophilic monomer, pigment and at least one filler that has been surface-treated with an organic agent. The surface-treated filler is present in an amount ranging from 0.05-95% by weight relative to the total weight of the composition. The surface-treated pigment and surface-treated filler are not chosen from micas coated with titanium and with at least one organic pigment.
Dermatological Composition Patented by Harmony Labs
U.S. Patent No. 7,625,575 B2; Harmony Labs, Inc., Landis, NC, has patented a dermatological composition that contains water, urea, butylated hydroxytoluene, Butyrospermum parkii (shea butter fruit), disodium EDTA, glyceryl stearate, Glycine soja (soybean) sterol, Helianthus annuus (hybrid sunflower) oil, sodium polyacrylate, stearic acid and triethanolamine.
Insect Repellant Fabric Effective After 50 Washings
U.S. Patent No. 7,625,411 B2; Piedmont Chemical Industries, High Point, NC, has patented a method of enhancing the efficacy of nylon, polyester and cotton-polyester fabrics to repel insects before and after laundering. It entails creating a retention additive comprised of a solution containing a polyester polyol aliphatic isocyanate urethane binder dispersion of permethrin insecticide and impregnating the fabric by pad application. The fabric retains the insecticide at 90% of the initial load after 50 launderings.
Two-Phase Cleaner for Hard-To-Reach Surfaces
U.S. Patent No. 7,625,855 B2; Gustavo M. Gonzalez of Miami, FL has patented a stable liquid-solid two-phase cleaning composition. It contains a water miscible solvent; an inorganic salt; water; a fragrance; and a dye.
Nail Polish Remover with Linseed Oil
U.S. Patent No. 7,625,852 B2; Henry Hadry of Philadelphia, PA and Everett Farr of Langhorne, PA have patented a nail polish remover containing alkyl nitrite solvent and a hygroscopic stabilizer comprising butylated linseed oil.

The April 2009 Patent Review section contained an error regarding U.S. Patent No. 7,501,388. The patent, “Method of Using a Composition For Disinfection and/or Sterilization,” was awarded to James E. McClung of Cedar Hill, TX, not Wella as reported.
