Rexam Launches Plastic that Resembles Glass



Rexam contends it has shattered the industry’s old-school bottle material paradigm with its launch of Crystal Transparency. In addition to its remarkable clarity and visual appeal, the packaging offers manufacturers an exciting range of marketing and production advantages.

Printpack Inc. Introduces NeoAffinia PETG Film for Shrink Sleeve Applications



NeoAffinia PETG, a new film from Printpack, debuted for shrink sleeve label applications.It is part of Printpack’s Affinia Series of high performance shrink film offerings. According to the company, Neo Affinia’s unique attributes will create many new, differentiating ways to package and market consumer products.

The shrink labels have a distinctive matte finish, providing a soft and velvety touch for the consumer. NeoAffinia is a white film that provides superior light barrier protection for products that are negatively impacted by exposure to light.With light barrier provided by the shrink sleeve label, it creates the opportunity for marketers and manufacturers to consider replacing expensive multi-layer or pigmented containers with more cost effective alternatives, said the company.

Fusion Launches Airless Twist Up Skin Care Package



Fusion Packaging recently launched an airless bottle for the skin care and cosmetic markets. According to the company, Fusion’s team of engineers was challenged to create a completely original item while maintaining the characteristics that make the round twist up one of its best sellers.

The square twist up includes the popular twist to actuate mechanism and convenient pop up pump to dispense the product, yet provides a truly unique look and feel. The sleek, modern bottle design eliminates the need for an overcap and prevents spills and leaks in its closed and locked position.

The square twist up is available in 30- and 15ml sizes.In addition, the company points out that the product is fully customizable and can be combined with a range of decorative options such as custom colors, silk-screening, hot stamping, UV metalizing and offset printing.

Aveeno, TerraCycle Form Repackaging Partnership



Aveeno recently partnered with TerraCycle—a company crafts affordable, eco-friendly products from a wide range of different non-recyclable waste materials—to give a new life to Aveeno’s product tubes. According to the company, it will “upcycle” the material into eco-friendly household items that will then be available for purchase at major retailers nationwide, offering consumers the opportunity to reuse their favorite Aveeno products.

Aveeno “Beauty Brigades” are currently being formed across the country to collect all of the empty elongated tubes from sun care, facial care, baby and body care products. For each tube received by TerraCycle, Aveeno will pay two cents to the non-profit organization or school of one's choice or to the featured charity, The Skin Cancer Foundation.

Ariel Laboratories Partners with Temptu for Airbrush



Flawless makeup application, once the exclusive domain of professional makeup artists, has been revolutionized by a do-it-yourself technology called the Temptu Airbrush Makeup System. The South Plainfield, NJ-based product development and manufacturing company Ariel Laboratories has collaborated with Temptu, a leader in airbrush makeup and revolutionary beauty technologies to create the formula for the system.

According to the company, this innovative, at-home device uses patent-pending, disposable air pods to deliver high-performance, flawless, professional airbrushed results. It launched in August on Sephora.com and in Sephora stores nationwide.

Temptu air pods are designed to last two to three months, so Air Pod Foundation is sold in pairs and blushes and highlighters are sold as individual units. The pods launched with 12 shades of foundation, four shades of highlighter and four shades of blush.

Ariel Labs has also formulated, developed and manufactured the ancillary line to the system called Retouch, a makeup-filled pen that is available in a liquid and powdered form.

Temptu’s line will continue to roll out to additional Sephora stores across the country in early 2010, and was set to debut on QVC last month. The Airbrush system was recently honored as a finalist at the HBA 2009 International Package Design Awards (IPDA).

The Pratt Institute - Luxe Pack Art of Packaging AwardGala, benefiting theMarc Rosen Scholarship for Graduate Package Design at Pratt Institute, will honor Coty Prestige for its outstanding commitment to package design on April 27 at New York’s University Club. Catherine Walsh, senior vice president, Coty Prestige, will accept the award.

Walsh is the visionary behind the company’s Calvin Klein, celebrity and designer fragrances. Her 2002 launch of Glow by JLo landed her on the cosmetic industry’s map and ignited a new celebrity fragrance genre.
