Jafra Cosmetics Opens New Manufacturing Site in Mexico
MEXICO: Jafra Cosmetics International, Inc. has opened its new $30 million state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Querétaro, Mexico. The 23-acre complex is now Jafra’s lead manufacturing facility, employing 800 people and supplying its worldwide sales and operations in 17 countries. The facility is 50% larger than its previous plant and can produce up to 200 million units annually, according to the company, which is a unit of German firm Vorwerk & Co.
Featuring green technologies and modern infrastructure, the 254,000-sq.-ft. plant complies with the most stringent standards for cosmetic production, the company said.
“This world-class manufacturing facility enables us to meet the growing demand for our existing products and we have the added flexibility and capability of easily handling production of future product lines,” said Dr. Friedrich Kroos, Jafra president and chief executive officer. “At Jafra, we’re committed to excellence in quality, service levels and costs. Innovation is built into every phase of our business and the Querétaro manufacturing center is a direct reflection of this philosophy.”
“We strongly believe in the future of Jafra,” added Walter Muyres, managing partner and executive board member, the Vorwerk Group. “This significant capital project investment supports our planned course of expansion and it will accommodate our anticipated growth for decades.”
Construction of the complex took less than a year and was completed within budget, according to Jafra.
In other news, Jafra has launched a redesigned corporate website. It is interactive, offering personalized skin profile tests, rotating carousel images, colorful graphics, videos and product presentations.
Over the next year, Jafra plans to roll out two additional phases of the website, including regional and personal consultant websites and a web portal that provides consultants with “real time” tracking.
Clarins’ Mugler Creates Womanity.com
FRANCE: Womanity.com is being rolled out by Thierry Mugler as an interactive platform with a goal of building an extensive community among women. The complete site will be available in June, according to Clarins Fragrance Group, which is the company behind the famed designer who has created some of the perfume market’s most interesting scents.
“Developing through this kind of interactive, collaborative space has long been a part of our brand DNA,” noted Joël Palix, president of Clarins Fragrance Group and the Thierry Mugler brand.
According to Palix, with the launch of Angel Circle in 1992, “Thierry Mugler was building an intimate, privileged relationship with its audience. Devotees of the designer and his perfumes could connect through the Circle—a community that now numbers close to a million.”
Palix added that if Clarins is to “keep moving this legacy forward, enhancing our relationship with our customers is crucial. We do that by continuing to recount our identity, by telling these stories. A brand must seek to break away from the elementary notion of broadcasting a message.”
According to the report, the brand intends for womanity.com to reach two million contributors by the end of 2010, and be fully interactive with existing social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. Womanity.com will launch worldwide in six languages—English, French, Spanish, German, Italian and Portuguese.
