NYSCC’s Chairman’s Charity Event Is Oct. 23
Building upon the success of its inaugural chairman’s charity, the New York Chapter of SCC (NYSCC) has unveiled plans for its next event: “The Sky’s the Limit,” which will be held Oct. 23 at Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, NJ.
The objective of the event is to celebrate all the Chapter’s accomplishments, give back to the membership and support a charity. This year, the selected charity is Reading is Fundamental (RIF), the oldest and largest children’s and family non-profit literacy organization in the U.S.
A cocktail reception will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Liberty Science Center’s“Skyscraper Exhibit,” the world’s largest exhibit of its kind. The cocktail reception will be followed by a seated buffet and dancing in the center’s large Science Court.
At NYSCC’s first chairman’s charity event, the Personal Care Product Council’s program “Look Good, Feel Better”received a $10,000 donation. NYSCC’s goal is to match that donation this year and examine other ways it can to contribute to RIF.
Individual tickets are $85 and corporate tables of 10 are $800.
Cosmetic Technology Transfer Conference Is Oct. 20
The NYSCC will hold its first Cosmetic Technology Transfer Conference Oct. 20 at the Woodbridge Hilton, Woodbridge, NJ. The conference will bring the leaders in technology transfer together with the cosmetic industry, with expert speakers and research posters from across the country.
The keynote speaker is famed astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, who is director of the Hayden Planetarium of the Museum of Natural History in New York, host of “Nova ScienceNow” and an accomplished author.
In addition to the keynote, scheduled speakers include Wes Blakeslee, director of the Office of Technology Transfer at Johns Hopkins University; Brian Kacedon, a partner with Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP; Dr. Johann Wiechers, an independent consultant for cosmetic science; and Vic Chavez, technology transfer coordinator, North Atlantic Area with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Poster topics will cover: Green Chemistry;Botanicals/Food & Agricultural Products; Optics and Colloid & Surface Chemistry; Nutraceuticals; and Fermentation and Genetic Engineering.
Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. and speakers will present from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. followed by a buffet lunch. Technology in Action—posters, live presentations and networking will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The keynote speaker address begins at 4 p.m.
The cost is $30 for members and $60 for non-members who preregister or $75 at the door.
Ohio Valley Chapter Golf Outing Is Oct. 5
The 12th Annual OVSCC Education Scholarship Golf Outing is planned for Oct. 5 at The Twin Oaks Golf and Plantation Club in Covington, KY. All profits go to the Ohio Valley chapter’s education fund, which was set up to heavily subsidize continuing education to OVSCC’s members. The cost is $100 per player.
Call for Papers: Australia SCC 2011 Conference
A call for papers has been issued for the Australian Society of Cosmetic Chemists Conference 2011, which will be held April 7-10, 2011 at the Sofitel Hotel in Brisbane Central, Queensland. The conference theme is:“The Science of Dreams.”
Submissions must be received no later than Oct. 1, 2010. Papers should be submitted to John Warby, johnrwarby@ozemail.com.au and copy Nick Urquhart, nickau@bigpond.com.
