L’Oréal USA: announced that Joseph J. Campinell, president of L’Oréal USA’s Consumer Products Division, will retire from the company effective June 2011.
Campinell has had a long and productive career at L’Oréal.He joined the company in 1986 as vice president of marketing for what was then known as Cosmair, L’Oréal’s licensing agent in the US.Campinell was promoted to senior vice president/general manager of the L’Oréal Retail Hair Division in 1996 and a year later was appointed president of the combined L’Oréal Retail Hair, Cosmetic and Fragrance Divisions.Under his leadership, L’Oréal grew to become the largest hair color brand in the US, as well as a formidable cosmetic and skin care brand.
In 2002, Campinell was named president of the entire Consumer Products Group at L’Oréal USA which includes L’Oréal Paris, Maybelline New York-Garnier and SoftSheen-Carson.Through the years, Campinell has been responsible for overseeing some of the company’s most important launches.Under his leadership, the L’Oréal Paris hair color business has become the leading brand in the mass market and, likewise, its cosmetic business has surpassed its largest competitor in mass.In addition to other significant product launches, Campinell had oversight for the Garnier Fructis shampoos and hair care products which were introduced in the American market in 2003 and the Nutritioniste line which launched in 2007.
