The days of penciling in eyebrows or painful tattooing sessions may be over for those with sparse hair growth.Joseph Eviatar, MD, official Latisse doctor for Claire Danes and board certified oculofacial plastic surgeon at Chelsea Eye and Cosmetic Surgery Associates in New York City, has conducted a pilot study using Latisse to treat patients suffering from inadequate eyebrows. Eviatar is pleased to announce that all subjects experienced improvement ranging from mild to significant over a three month period.
Last year, Latisse was approved by the FDA to enhance length, thickness and darkness of eyelashes.
“There is a large population of men and women who would benefit from the use of Latisse for eyebrow growth and I have seen nice results in my practice. However, you need to have eye brow hairs present. It won’t grow new follicles,” said Eviatar.
Available only through a doctor, Latisse is a once-daily prescription treatment applied to the eyebrows with a sterile, single-use-per-eye disposable applicator. Users are said to experience longer, fuller and darker eyebrows in as little as eight weeks, with full results in 16 weeks.
“As an ophthalmologist and oculofacial plastic surgeon whose practice focuses on the eyes, I had seen the benefits of Latisse’s active ingredient, bimatoprost, in as early as 2001.Bimatoprost is a medication used to lower eye pressure in people with glaucoma. Many patients treated with bimatoprost for this specific eye condition experienced eyelash growth as a side effect,” explained Eviatar.“We now see that bimatiprost appears to have the same positive effect on the eyebrows.”
