IFSCC 2011 Conference Wrap Up

• The Society of Cosmetic Chemists of Thailand (SCCT) hosted the IFSCC Conference Dec. 12-14 2011 at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. Postponed from November 2011 due to the floods in and around Bangkok, the rescheduled event drew 356 delegates, which also included many students who were sponsored to attend the conference.

Dr. Fujihiro Kanda, chair of the IFSCC Science Committee, announced the conference awards. The award for the best paper went to Yukiko Matsunaga, Shigeyoshi Fujiwara, Yuichiro Mori, Akiko Miyake, Haruyo Yomanishi, Madoka Kage, Yoshihiro Tokudome, Fumie Hashimoto and Takeshi Hariya of the Shiseido Research Centre and Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Josai University, Japan for their paper “Development of self-dissolving microneedles consisting of hyaluronic acid as an anti-wrinkle treatment.”

The first Host Society Award went to Surapol Natakankitkul, Natthinee Nantalit, Panee Sirisa-ard, Suporn Charumanee and Kiattisak Pholsongkram. The first Henry Maso Award winner was Theeraya Krisdaphong.”

IFSCC president Panvipa Krisdaphong presented the M G de Navarre Young Scientists Prize to Pinky Purohit (US). The Lester Conrad Award was presented to the Indonesian Society and the Past President Scroll was presented to Gavin Greenoak (Australia).

At the IFSCC Council Meeting, delegates were elected to the Praesidium for 2011/12: president-Panvipa Krisdaphong (Thailand); VP-Roy Gardiner (So. Africa); treasurer-Susan Hurst (UK); hon. secretary-Silvia Boracchi (Italy); committee member-Jadir Nunes (Brazil); committee member-Claudie Willemin (France); committee member-Philippe Auderset (Switzerland); chair-science-Fuji Kanda (Japan); chair-education comittee-Amy Wyatt (USA); chair-PR committee-Andrea Weber (Germany); chair-publication committee-Robert Lochhead (US); and hon. auditors-A. Hunt (France) and J. Beerling (UK). Those continuing in office include Alberto Martin (Argentina) as immediate past president, Lorna Weston (UK) as secretary general and G. Bektas (UK) as assistant to secretary general.

The 27th IFSCC Conference will be held Oct. 15-18, 2012 in South Africa.

Scientific Seminar Social Event May 30 in Charleston

• Make plans now for the 2012 Annual Scientific Seminar, which will be held May 31-June 1 in Charleston, SC.

Prior to the seminar, on May 30, Area IV of the SCC with host an evening social event at the SC Aquarium in Charleston.
