June 29, 2012

Mandy Moore and Jessica Jarrell join Dove’s real life inspirational women at the Girl Scouts Rock the Mall.
At the “Girl Scouts Rock the Mall” in Washington, D.C. on June 9, Dove introduced four women who are part of its Dove Movement for Self-Esteem, a national program that celebrates inspirational real women in an effort to help girls find and recognize role models in their own lives.

Dove’s real-life role models are Toni Blackman, a musician who became the first Hip Hop Cultural Envoy to travel with the US State Department to help girls and women in war-affected countries find their voice through music; Jane Chen, creator of a lifesaving incubator for vulnerable babies in developing countries, is committed to inspiring girls to become more involved in science; Melanie Matchett-Wood, a mathematician, who at age 16 was the first American girl to make the US International Mathematical Olympiad Team; and Lydia Villa-Komaroff, a molecular biologist who is one of the first Latina women to hold a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Some of the 250,000 girls who came to Washington DC on June 9.

The Girl Scouts Rock the Mall event celebrated the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. and included music, song and dance for hundreds of thousands of girls and their moms.

Actress, recording artist and songwriter Mandy Moore and pop singer Jessica Jarrell also joined Dove and at the event.
