CSPA Releases 5th Edition Cleaning Products Compendium
• The Consumer Specialty Products Association (CSPA) recently debuted the 5th Edition Cleaning Products Compendium. The report, which features 11 individual test methods created through scientific collaboration and interlaboratory testing, gives formulators seeking to develop cleaning products and/or test product efficacy a reference tool for standardized processes recognized by the household products industry, according to CSPA. The Compendium supports an ongoing effort to provide consistent and industry supported scientific test methods used in developing consumer cleaning products.
For the 5th edition, eight of the 11 available test methods have been updated and can be obtained as a complete group, or individually. Six of the Compendium’s updated test methods are currently recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Design for the Environment (DfE) program as an acceptable standard for the development of safer cleaning products.
“As new cleaning products emerge, the Compendium will continue to serve as a key resource offering consistent testing methodologies and an up-to-date compilation of peer reviewed research,” said Timothy A. Brown, CSPA regulatory counsel and cleaning products division staff executive.
In addition to the available test methods, the complete Compendium also contains informative white papers, a comprehensive listing of North American independent contract laboratories, as well as other related resources.
The Compendium is evaluated and updated every five years, or sometimes sooner depending on need. Work on the Compendium is conducted by members of CSPA’s Cleaning Products Division in conjunction with the Scientific Affairs Committee. Test methods are selected for inclusion in the Compendium pending a committee approval.
