• BRAZIL: From June 13-22, thousands of events were held in the lead-up to and during Rio+20, the UN Conference on Sustainable Development including more than 500 official and side events at the Riocentro Convention Center.
Dr. Fred Zülli, managing director of Mibelle Biochemistry, Switzerland was invited to talk and discuss about sustainable sourcing of raw material for the beauty industry. In particular the company’s PhytoCellTec technology has been detected as an eco-breakthrough in natural cosmetics ingredients as it allows cultivation of plant stem cells. On one side, these plant stem cells contain the most active molecules, which have shown excellent benefits on skin. And on the other side, they can be used in cosmetics without harming the environment.
In addition, Dr. Zülli participated in the session on “Limiting Environmental Impact of Cosmetics.” The group was moderated by Joppe Cramwinckel, WBCSD. Other panelists included Paul Artaxo, University of Sao Paulo; Jeroen Douglas, Solidaridad Latin America; Alfredo Cabral, Vertica Business Consultancy; Bernado Roehrs, Agroamerica, Guatemala; and Rodrigo Somogyi, Ecofratas, Brazil.
