Rexam Packages Givenchy’s Noir Mascara
• Noir Couture mascara from LVMH’s Givenchy brand is the latest example of the Rexam Personal Care Group’s work for the prestige brand, according to the company. Created in partnership with Givenchy’s brand artistic director, the new mascara assignment recognizes Rexam’s recent make-up packaging successes for the company.
As in past Givenchy work, the new mascara showcases Rexam’s capabilities in injection, decoration and assembly processes. The result is a sophisticated mascara that exudes luxury and reinforces the brand’s haute couture orientation, according to Rexam.
Keys to success of the pack are the sophisticated decoration elements and the delicate logo treatment, the latter created by two distinct processes. A delicate “4G” is engraved—and hot stamped— at the top of the contoured and UV varnished cap, while the same precise two-step process is used to adorn the base with an elegant “Givenchy” logo. The mascara is further decorated with the high-precision alignment and hot stamping of the shiny silver vertical strips extending from cap to base. Both the cap and base are injected in black PCTA, while the wiper is of black PEBD.
Rexam’s makeup related work with LVMH brands is extensive and includes such launches as Givenchy’s Rouge Interdit, Dior’s Rouge Dior and Guerlain’s KissKiss and Rouge Automatique.

Lumson Is Making Waves
• Among the several standard packaging solutions suggested by Lumson, companies can now also choose two new plastic bottles in 200ml and 250ml sizes with a slightly elliptical shape. The Wave bottles show a light “wave” in relief on their frontal side as a distinctive quality: a design specifically conceived by Lumson to make the packaging more dynamic and ergonomic and also to offer a more user-friendly pack to the final consumer, said the company.
The Wave bottles are made in HDPE and can be personalized with mass coloring and screen-printing decoration to obtain a graphic result with a strong visual impact enhancing the image of a brand.
Lumson has dedicated the same attention to the choice of its closure: the Flip Top Wave, a one-body styled cap creating a bottle with a unique design object. Customizable in two different colors (top and body), the Wave cap rides the new two-colored fashion trend and gives the entire packaging a glamour touch.
These bottles are ideal for a shampoo and conditioner, a cleansing lotion and a body lotion or a tanning and after-sun lotion, according to the firm.

ICMAD Celebrates Design Talent
• The Independent Cosmetic Manu-facturers & Distributors (ICMAD) celebrated another successful Young Designers Competition, which took place at Twenty Four Fifth in New York City on Oct. 10. The evening’s guests included association members, industry executives and featured keynote speaker Ben Bennett of Hatchbeauty.
The annual competition showcases the talents of students studying package design and inspires future creative talent in the beauty industry. Judged by a panel of cosmetic and personal care packaging design experts, each student received a 30ml bottle, which was donated by East Hill Industries based in Dallas. The criterion was to create the overall packaging concept and brand identity. The winning students were flown to New York City to attend the award dinner and participate in an educational tour of three companies which truly encompass the business of packaging and design—C.O. Bigelow, The Color Association and RPG.
The 2012 Young Designers Winners are Tara Meyer, a design student from Miami International University of Art/Design (1st Place); Samantha Galvez, a design student from Miami International University of Art/Design (2nd Place); and Matt Zonona, a design student from Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) of Los Angeles (3rd Place).
“Congratulations to the winners, we are honored to offer such a valuable opportunity to future budding designers. We look forward to the Young Designers program continuing to evolve and becoming the catalyst to many others’ success,” said Pam Busiek, who is president and CEO, ICMAD.
The 2012 Young Designer competition awards were presented by Busiek; Ian Ginsberg, president of C.O. Bigelow and chairman of the board, ICMAD and Ben Bennett, founder and creative director of Hatchbeauty.
