Forget Mother's Day. Estée Lauder is aiming for the Fall for the launch of Modern Muse, its biggest women's scent since the debut of Beyond Paradise in 2003, according to the company. Modern Muse will capture what it eans today to be independent and confident in one’s own sense of self and style. Industry sources say first year sales could approach $100 million at retail. The global rollout will be in phases. In the US, the scent will make its debut in about 2,200 department and specialty stores in September. The U.K., Switzerland, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Latin America will get Modern Muse this fall, while Europe and the remainder of the world will get the fragrance beginning in January.
The scent, which features key notes of sparkling jasmine and sleek woods, was developed by Firmenich. Modern Muse EDP will be available in three sizes — 1 oz., 1.7 oz. and 3.4 oz, retailing for $58, $78 and $98, respectively; while a 1-oz. parfum, a 6.7-oz. body lotion and a 6.7-oz. shower gel, will retail for $285, $50 and $50, respectively. Most pieces in the collection will debut in September, but the body lotion and shower gel will hit counters in late October and the parfum will be sold starting in February.
