The New York Chapter of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists will hold "Beginning Cosmetic Chemistry and Cosmetic Chemistry in the Internet Age," a one-day course on June 12, 2013 at The Bethwood, Totowa, NJ. The course will be taught by Perry Romanowski.
This course will provide an introduction to the cosmetic industry, key raw materials, cosmetic formulation types, product development, and product testing. While it is designed with beginning formulating cosmetic chemists in mind, the information presented will also be useful for QA chemists interested in formulating, seasoned veteran scientists who want to learn about other areas of formulations, scientists in related industries, college students studying chemistry and marketing, or sales people who could use a primer about the chemistry of their products.
The more session will be be devoted to an overview of the cosmetic industry, product development, key raw materials and vehicles, and product testing.
The afternoon session will explain how the internet can be a lucrative source of innovation, new product ideas, research, networking, and problem solving. It can even be a place to inexpensively test products before deciding to invest heavily in a launch. In this talk the five key areas for most productive use of the Internet are described. These include:
Registration will take place from 8-9am. Morning session is 9am to 12 noon. Lunch is 12 noon to 1pm. The afternoon session is from 1-4:30pm. Online registration: Members ($20); Nonmembers ($30), Emeritus members (free if pre-registered), Students with valid ID ($10). At door: $30 surcharge in all categories.

These include:
- A review of open innovation resources.
- Specialized search engines from Google and beyond.
- Leveraging social media outlets to find solutions to formulation problems.
- Using blogs and forums to figure out what consumers want.
- How to test products before inventing them.
