Unilever Banks on Beauty for Growth

Q3 revenue is down but personal care delivers volume.

Unilever's reported revenues fell 6.5% to 12.5 billion euros ($17.2 billion) due to the strong euro for third quarter revenues. However, personal care and laundry sales are still performing well.
 
Personal Care continued to deliver healthy volume-led growth in the quarter ahead of its markets, with a good balance of growth across the sub-categories, said the company in its report.  Hair performed well, as Dove Repair Expertise has now been launched across most of its markets. The launch of Toni&Guy into new markets continues with, for example, the recent introduction in the US retail channel. In skin care, Vaseline body lotion sprays continued their success in North America and are now being extended to the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. The male face launch of Dove Men+Care continued to drive growth as well for Unilever.
 
In Home Care, laundry growth was largely driven by increased volumes and the success of premium formats such as liquids. According to the company, “We are responding to ongoing competitive intensity by re-investing part of our cost savings in product performance and in brand support.”
