Was global key account holder for BASF

Dr. John Fredrick (Fred) Hessel III, Ph.D. of Newton, NJ died Jan. 9, 2014. He was 59. Born in New Brunswick, NJ, he resided in Doylestown, PA before moving to Newton last year.

Fred worked as a global key account holder at BASF, Florham Park, NJ. He will be remembered by his colleagues and friends for his passion for and his knowledge of the industry...not to mention his joie de vivre.

Fred was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine Hessel.

He is survived by his father, John F. Hessel Jr.; the mother of his children, Eileen Hessel; his daughters, Maureen Hessel of Gambia, Africa, Katie Hessel of Philadelphia, and Danielle Gerdts and her husband, Brian, of Queens, NY; his two sisters, Jean Hessel of East Brunswick, NJ and Barbara Hessel and her partner, Ed Sandler, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and a granddaughter, Mallyanna Odena.

The wake will occur from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17 at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave. (Rt. 27), Metuchen. Mass will be celebrated at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Metuchen.
