In honor of Black History Month, Colgate-Palmolive and Family Dollar have partnered to help African-American families across the Houston area to take charge of oral health. For example, Houston-area families recently joined actress and mother Vanessa Williams (Melrose Place, New Jack City) for a special meet and greet, along with Colgate's volunteer core of dentists and hygienists, for complimentary dental screenings and oral care tips at select Family Dollar locations.
According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, 34% of African-Americans have untreated cavities in comparison to 18% of non-Hispanic Whites.
"I'm thrilled to partner with Colgate and Family Dollar to celebrate Black History Month, because we share the common goal of empowering African-American families across the Houston area and everywhere to honor our past and take charge of our future," Williams says.
The Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures mobile dental van will offer complimentary dental screenings and treatment referrals (if needed) to children ages 3-12 as well as oral care tips for the entire family. In addition, Colgate and Family Dollar will host students from four local Houston Boys & Girls Clubs to create drawings that demonstrate what Black History Month means to them and Colgate products and Family Dollar gift cards will be awarded.
